The state government, which is contemplating to offload 74 per cent stake in Odisha Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (OTPCL), a 50:50 joint venture between Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) and Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC), is keen to emulate the steps of Chhattisgarh to go about it. New Delhi The Supreme Court on Monday asked Mahanadi Coalfields to supply 2,84,750 tonne of coal to Jindal Stainless’ 1.6 million tonne-integerated stainless steel plant in Orissa. A Bench, headed by Justice KS Radhakrishnan, continued its earlier order asking the Mahanadi Coalfields' to supply 25% of the agreed quantity, as per the coal supply agreement of February 2009, to Jindal Stainless’ plant till the disposal of the petition filed by the Ratan Jindal's firm before the Orissa High Court. JSL's entitlement under the February 2009 contract was 11,39,000 metric tonne per annum.
State yet to decide on Kalinganagar or Bolangir to locate the complex The Union ministry of commerce and industry has urged the Odisha government to identify suitable land with appropriate power, road and transport linkages for establishment of a National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ). Though the state government has identified the Kalinga Nagar industrial cluster in Jajpur district and Bolangir in the economically backward KBK (Kalahandi, Bolangir and Koraput) region as probable locations for development of NIMZ, it is yet to zero in on any location for the zone.

Three lessees charged with violation of Rule-37 of Mineral Concession Rules-1960 – Indrani Patnaik, KJS Ahluwalia and R P Sao- have filed petitions in the revision authority under Union ministry of mines, dealing a blow to the ongoing investigation by the state steel & mines department. Indrani Patnaik has even got an interim order from the revision authority barring the state government from passing any final order in case of Rule-37 violation before the lessee’s revision application is disposed off by the authority. The state government, however, has been allowed to carry on hearing in the case, said a steel & mines department official.
