Jumbo translocation: HC seeks objections from forest dept
The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday directed the State Forest department to file objections in a petition challenging the proposed translocation of captive elephants from Karnataka to Madhya Pradesh. Compassion Unlimited Plus Action (CUPA), a city-based animal rights group had moved the High Court stating that the State government had identified 11 elephants for translocation to Madhya Pradesh for safari and that the dry deciduous forests of MP were not suitable for the pachyderms. The petitioner had sought a direction to restrain the government from shifting the jumbos.

Tamil Nadu Newsprints and Papers Limited gets environment-friendly tag
To be labelled with FSC logo highlighting the PSU’s environmental concerns Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) has granted certificates in Forest Management and Chain of Custody to Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL). This could enable TNPL products to be labelled with the FSC logo highlighting the PSU’s social and environmental concerns and contributions. FSC is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit organisation established by leading social, environmental and economic players to promote responsible management of forests. FSC issues certificates in Forest Management (FM) and Chain of Custody (CoC).

PANJIM: Finally, the State Forest Policy is expected to see day of light, with state forest department referring the policy for legal vetting. Forest minister Alina Saldanha said that department has already finalized the policy and has sent to law department for legal vetting.
