A unique initiative started by the government is helping women from as far as Latin America and Africa light up their lives and homes. Barefoot Solar Engineers, a government initiative, teaches semi-literate and illiterate rural poor women to harness solar energy through the construction of photovoltaic systems and solar-powered lanterns. The women are being trained under the ministry of external affairs' very successful Solar Engineer Plan as part of its India Technical Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme at Rajasthan’s Tilonia. The Barefoot College, a grassroots movement , was adopted as a training institute in 2008.
JAISALMER: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is expected to inaugurate two 50 megawatt solar projects at Phalodi in Jodhpur district by the end of this week. A detailed itinerary of his visit is yet to come but after his approval the state as well as district administration has begun preparations. The PM's confirmation to the visit is a testimony to the silent yet successful revolution to tap non-conventional sources of energy in Jodhpur and Jaisalmer districts. Pokhran belt in Jaisalmer and Phalodi belt in Jodhpur, over the past few years, have witnessed a surge in the number of solar and wind projects with big-ticket firms competing to set up plants.
PUNE: The Dhule-based solar power plant which is expected to generate 150 MW power is likely to be made operational from March 20 this year. The first phase would add 50 MW power to the state grid, said government officials. The solar panels spread over 350 hectares of barren land will have 'thin film' and 'crystalline' technology based photovoltaic cells. The aim is to maximize the output from the solar panels. The efficiency of the power panels is 20% of the total heat absorption. The project was delayed by one year because of the dispute between the state revenue and forest department. Later the dispute was resolved and the project was cleared.
These meters will replace the existing ones The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) will have to install fresh meters for domestic consumers who opt for rooftop solar power units. Giving this direction, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC), in its order a few days ago, stated that these meters would replace the existing ones used by such consumers. Their cost would be recovered from the consumers.
But Has It Worked Out The Future Economics? Ahmedabad: There is a dazzling field of mirrors that you can find near the vast saltpans of the Little Rann. It is like a sparkling oasis in the desert — much like a gleaming silver screen covering the vast desolate white sand around. This is Charanka village in Patan, where over 2,965 acres, rows of photovoltaic cells or solar panels have been laid out to harness the sun. They are generating 214 MW of electricity every day—more than China’s 200 MW Golmund Solar park.
Japan will provide Tk 8,234 crore under its 34th official development assistance (ODA) loan package for financing four development projects in Bangladesh, the largest ever Japanese loan package for Bangladesh.
GANDHINAGAR: Having successfully established a solar power generation park in north Gujarat and a series of wind power plants with private companies, Gujarat government is now focusing on tapping offshore wind power generation potential along its coastline. Following a positive study report prepared by UK based Atlantis Resources Corporation, the government is now drafting an offshore wind power generation policy that will be announced soon. A senior official with the state energy and petrochemical department said, "The state government expects around Rs 1,000 crore in investments in the sector over the next few years. It has allocated Rs 20 crore in the recent budget to give equity in a first of its kind pilot project."
JAIPUR: In the financial year 2013-14, the state government has set a target to provide 75,000 new connections and increase power production capacity to 900MW in the public sector and 660MW in the private sector. It has also estimated that power production from wind energy products in the state would be 400MW. In the budget presented in the House on Wednesday, Gehlot announced that in the new financial year, two 400 KV and 28 grid substations (GSS) of 132 KV will be completed.
Jaipur: Like charity begins at home, CM Gehlot, obviously remembered his home turf Jodhpur. The sun city will be developed as a solar city and the chief minister made a budgetary allocation of Rs 100 crore for its development. As part of the plan, the government announced a roof top power generation scheme. The Union ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE) has identified 54 places in the country to develop solar cities with three of them being in Rajasthan — Jaipur, Jodhpur and Ajmer. While proposals for preparing master plans for Jaipur and Ajmer are yet to be approved by the MNRE, the same has been cleared for Jodhpur.
The Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet (ECC) on Wednesday approved ‘Framework for Power Cogeneration 2013 Bagasse and Biomass’ as an addendum to the Renewable Energy Policy 2006. This framework
