New Delhi India is banking on its wind power potential to meet the renewable energy target set under the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) for the 12th Five-Year Plan (April 2012- March 2017). NAPCC aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the overall grid power from 5% in 2009-10 to 15% by 2020, increasing it by 1% each year. But several states have lagged behind the target due to shortage of renewable power.
MUMBAI: Will the wind mills, whose project cost has been paid fully by state's consumers, be allowed to sell electricity at higher rates in the open market? The state power ministry has objected to the
Biomass-based power producers, with an installed capacity of 2,664 Mw, have made a strong pitch for according priority sector status on the lines of agro sector. These producers have also appealed to the Centre to launch biomass mission on the lines of solar mission to attract more investments. They have also brought to the notice of the Centre that a large number of biomass-based power projects were lying idle or running below capacity due to low tariff, which ranges between Rs 2.80 per unit in Kerala and Rs 5.53 per unit in Jharkhand.
The Indian Wind Power Association has said 3200 mw of wind power generation capacity was commissioned in the country during 2011-12 in spite of tough times. Prof. K.Kasthoori Rangaian, Chairman of the
Pune Loss-making Wind turbine maker Suzlon Energy is considering a stake sale in its wholly-owned subsidiary REpower Systems SE, reports say. Repower is based in Hamburg, Germany, and manufactures onshore and offshore wind turbines with installation of around 3,600 wind turbines around the world.
Suzlon Energy Ltd, Asia’s third-biggest wind turbine maker by sales, is studying options for its German Repower Systems SE subsidiary, including a sale or listing a stake, people with knowledge of the

A new picture is emerging in the U.S. power sector. In 2007, electricity generation from coal peaked, dropping by close to 4 percent annually between 2007 and 2011. Over the same time period, nuclear generation
Bangalore As revised estimates point to a two-fold increase in India's potential for wind energy generation with the use of taller towers for wind turbines, the Centre for Wind Energy Technology (C-WET) is setting up 75 monitoring stations across the country to validate the prediction and also assess the land availability. The initiative, which would involve measuring wind speed from towers as tall as 100 metre, comes more than a decade after the centre embarked on a similar exercise to validate the potential at 50-metre hub heights. Wind speeds are greater at higher tower heights, though the density is lower.
Loss-making Suzlon Energy has sold a part of its wind energy farm for $40 million (. 200 crore) to an undisclosed private utility and plans to divest stake in its components business to raise funds to
