This new publication examines complex connections between the global forest products industry and the global carbon cycle, with the objective of characterizing the carbon footprint of the sector. The analysis finds that the industry’s main sources of emissions are manufacturing and disposal of used products in landfills.

Soil samples for the estimation of organic carbon store were collected from the entire catchment area starting from Rajban to origin of Giri and all the land uses were covered to estimate soil organic carbon.
The increasing lelvel of green house gases in general and carbon dioxide in particular has raised concerns about the vulnerability of human, animal and plant life. Forests though serve as sources and sink of the CO2, there is need to synthesize the impact of climate change on forests and the role of forests in global carbon cycle.

Humans have reduced the abundance of many large marine vertebrates, including whales, large fish, and sharks, to only a small percentage of their pre-exploitation levels. Industrial fishing and whaling also tended to preferentially harvest the largest species and largest individuals within a population. We consider the consequences of removing these animals on the ocean's ability to store carbon.

Original Source

Sedimentological and stable isotopic characteristics of sediments have been studied in a core from the south-eastern Arabian Sea containing records of the past 70 ka.

Geoengineering has been proposed as a feasible way of mitigating anthropogenic climate change, especially increasing global temperatures in the 21st century. The two main geoengineering options are limiting incoming solar radiation, or modifying the carbon cycle.

Original Source

In the run up to his first Presidential election, Ronald Regan became the butt of jokes and night time comedies when he said that trees cause more pollution than the cars. But Regan may not have been altogether wrong in his claim.
