    Country maintains rising momentum in grain production for fifth year JINAN: China's agricultural authority has expressed confidence in the summer harvest, as farmers around the country have put over half the output in the granary with the rest to be cropped before the end of the month. A Ministry of Agriculture official said major grain production areas are poised to sustain a bumper summer crop for the fifth year in a row, maintaining the rising momentum in grain production.

  • Record wheat production likely in 2008-09

While India has recorded the highest ever production and procurement levels, a report by the London-based International Grains Council said that global wheat production is expected to touch a record 645 million tonnes, a rise of 41 million tonnes from the year before. Hearteningly enough, consumption is projected to rise to 630 million tonnes in the same year.

  • 37 lakh metric tonnes of wheat procured on support price

    So far, 22 lakh 37 thousand 892 metric tonnes of wheat has been procured on support price from farmers in Madhya Pradesh and Rs 1266 core 32 lakh has been paid to them. Farmers are being given Rs one hundred bonus declared by the state government on the procurement of wheat at support price of Rs 1000 per quintal. Bulk of procurement is being made by state Civil Supplies Corporation. The quantity of procurement for this season is 47 fold more than the last year. During the entire Rabi season last year, only 47 thousand metric tonnes of wheat was purchased.

    Promising massive infrastructure building, Tripura Finance Minister Badal Chowdhury presented a budget of Rs 5,248.76 crore with a deficit of Rs 76.74 crore for the 2008-2009 financial year in the Assembly here today. The budget has proposed substantial increase in capital expenditure as the outlay for infrastructure building has been pegged at Rs 1,763 crore.
