New Delhi: They may not have the glamourous tag but when it comes to cleanliness and sanitation, smaller cities like Chandigarh, Mysore, Surat, Tiruchirapalli and Jamshedpur have beaten the metros in the sanitation ratings released by the Union urban development ministry on Monday.

The ratings exer cise for cleanliness, curb on open defecation, provision of clean drinking water and waste disposal, carried out by the ministry of urban development, has revealed that none of the 423 Classcities in the country could qualify for the "green" category, which was the best cat egory, and only four cities could make it to the nex best "blue" category.
