The GHMC on Tuesday gave up its insistence of banning all plastic carry bags and settled to prohibit bags that are thinner than 40 microns from July 1, in line with the Central government directions. To make it easy for customers to make out the difference, GHMC is in talks with manufacturers to print the thickness on the bags.
Almost a year ago, the Ashok Gehlot government in the state enforced a blanket ban on the use of plastic bags in the state. The move was much appreciated and welcomed.

As Mysore City Corporation (MCC) continues the drive against plastic, officials raided Agriculture Produce Marketing Corporation (APMC) at Bandipalya and seized more than 3000 kilos of plastics from the traders. The traders were fined to the tune of about Rs 3000 during the raid. The plastic bags that were seized being transported in MCC vehicles, in Mysore on Tuesday.
