The Punjab assembly yesterday passed resolutions recommending the protection and re-digging of village ponds and a ban on the use of polythene bags as well as the burning of wheat and paddy stubbles in the state. The House included the recommendation to ban polythene bags in the very last minute of discussion on the interjection of BJP minister Tikshan Sood.
Every problem brings with it its own set of solutions. Just like the ban on polythene bags gave way to paper and cloth bags.
GUWAHATI, March 5
New Delhi: In a desperate attempt to have the ban on plastic bags revoked, the plastic lobby has now proposed that they be authorized for collecting and recycling plastic waste from households on a door-to-door collection basis.
Though the government has banned polythene bags in the city, it has not yet come up with a better environment-friendly alternative. Recently, some newspapers published articles where the government is asking people to suggest an alternative to plastic bags.
The campaign to start from Delhi NEW DELHI: The Plastic Bags Awareness Forum has announced the launch of an awareness campaign to allay misconceptions about use of plastic bags.
The PIL filed by INFORSE-IDL in Madras High Court, asking for a complete ban on manufacture, trading and use of 'use & throw plastic products & carry bags upto 150 microns thickness (both virgin & recycled) and kudams/containers made of recycled plastics.
