New Delhi: Due to a rise in the number of Chikungunya cases in the city, there is growing concern about the steps and precautions that need to be taken once someone is inflicted with the virus. Doctors warn that while severe joint pain and continuing weakness might be a cause for concern, utmost care needs to be taken to ensure that the patient gets adequate rest.
The reputed medical journal, The Lancet, recently published an article on malaria-related deaths in India, which were estimated to be two lakh per year, and 13 times higher than the estimate of the World Health Organisation. WHO representatives contested these numbers and the methodology behind them, but conceded that their own numbers were too low.

KOLKATA 21 OCT: With a rise in dengue cases in the city, doctors have warned residents to remove stagnant water in their homes to avoid breeding of mosquitoes.
