It helped the Corporation from preventing environmental pollution, especially groundwater pollution. The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Centre to ban the import of toxic wastes in any form as identified and declared hazardous under the Basel Convention and its different protocols. Karur municipality’s civic refuse dumping site euphemistically dubbed the solid waste compost yard on the Vangal Road here is all set to undergo improvements at a cost of Rs.2.72 crore under the solid waste management schedule of Integrated Urban Development Mission.
