New Delhi The state-owned NTPC on Thursday said it has been assured by the coal ministry of the fuel-linkages for its upcoming projects that are to come up over the next 5-10 years, helping it become a 75,000 mw generating firm by 2017. The company has received assurance from the coal ministry about getting the coal linkage, according to a company official. The move will ensure that NTPC’s power plants get fuel from the state-owned Coal India Ltd’s stations closest to the thermal projects.
The two-member panel asked by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) to probe the twin national grid collapses on July 30 and 31 has said prevention of such occurences requires strict adherence to grid discipline. A CERC official told Business Standard the report was given last Thursday. It has blamed underdrawal by the western region states and overdrawal by the northern and eastern states for the collapses, affecting power supply for hours in 21 states.

New Delhi GAIL India has moved the Supreme Court challenging the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity order that upheld the PNGRB’s decision to accept the technical bid of the Gujarat State Petronet-led consortium for laying the R5,000-crore Mallavaram-Bhopal-Bhilwara-Vijaipur gas pipeline project. GSPL, which currently operates about 2,000 km of pipelines in Gujarat, has a 52% stake in the consortium, with Indian Oil Corp holding 26%, and Bharat Petroleum Corp and Hindustan Petroleum Corp having 11% each. The grouping had emerged as the lowest bidder for the project, ousting GAIL.
To avert a total breakdown of the grid system and prevent a major blackout in future, the northern grid States have formulated a 12-point plan including installation of automatic demand management schemes. At a recent meeting held at the Power Ministry, the plan was agreed upon by a dozen States including major offenders Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan. Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, and Delhi were also part of the agreement.
