Power generation at four thermal power stations with a combined capacity of 4,940 MW in Rajasthan has dropped to 2,900 MW due to shortage of coal, a senior official of Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam said today.

The latest numbers showed 34 of India’s 90 power stations were running on critical coal stocks — sufficient to sustain operations for less than seven days — as on Wednesday. These 34 stations account for 50,047 Mw of the country’s total 97,920-Mw power capacity (51 per cent).
Bhel officials said that no reasons have been assigned by RVUN for cancelling the tenders The Rajasthan government has scrapped tenders worth Rs 12,000 crore that were bagged by Bharat Heavy Electricals (Bhel) more than a year ago for two separate thermal power projects in the state. Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (RVUN), a state government company, has scrapped EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) tenders for upcoming new super critical units of Suratgarh and Chhabra thermal power stations, sources said.
The Expert Appraisal Committee of the Union Ministry of Forests and Environment has agreed in principle to give environmental clearance to two coal blocks allotted to Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam in Chhattisgarh. The forest clearance for the two blocks was provided in the first phase in July this year.
JAIPUR: Rajasthan will start getting an additional 60 lakh units of electricity every day after synchronisation of the sixth unit of the Suratgarh thermal power project which was lit up this past Sunday. The State Vidyut Utpadan Nigam has set the target of starting the 250 MW unit by March this year.
