ERODE: Forest Department employees are on high alert following reports of poachers
A person from Keri-Sattari was on Friday arrested in connection with the tiger killing case that had rocked the State some months ago. According to sources, Nagesh Majik was called for an enquiry by the Forest Department at Tushimala-Sanquelim and later went along with RFO Tulshidas Wadkar and Mr Chodankar to the site at Keri, where the tiger was reportedly killed.
An elephant calf was shot dead by some miscreants at Shettyhalli Forests near Hanagodu in Hunsur taluk on Thursday. The calf is around three to four months. The Forest staff, which was on their round spotted the body of the calf and informed senior officials immediately. Dr Srinivas conducted the postmortem on the spot.
The opposition Congress in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly today shouted slogans and staged a walkout over the issue of illegal poaching of tigers and decline in the population of the big cat.
