Rs10bn relief package sought from centre
The NWFP Assembly on Wednesday sought Rs10 billion relief package from the federal government for rehabilitation of flood affected people in Peshawar district. Awami National Party lawmaker Alamzeb Khan tabled the resolution in the House, which was unanimously passed. Treasury and opposition benches jointly asked Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to visit flood-hit areas in Peshawar and other parts of the province.

Dengue fever claims two more lives
Two patients believed to be suffering from dengue fever have died during the last 24 hours at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and the Civil Hospital Karachi, said health officials on Wednesday. The two patients were among the 94 admitted to various public and private sector hospitals during the last one month with symptoms of dengue.

421,000 houses built in quake-hit areas: ERRA
The Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) has completed construction of 421,000 houses in the quake affected region, the authority chairman Altaf M. Salim said here on Wednesday. Addressing a certificate distribution ceremony for the participants of ERRA Interns and Volunteers Programme (EIVP), Salim said the authority was actively working in 12 rehabilitation sectors where housing, education, health and livelihood were being given top priority.

Poland invited to invest in coal mining, power generation
Federal Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf on Friday invited Poland to invest in the coal power generation and coal mining sector in Pakistan to benefit the country with the expertise of Polish technology. He said this while talking to Ambassador of Poland Dr Krzysztof Debnicki, who called on him here on Friday. The Ambassador discussed matters of mutual interest, especially power and mining sectors to further strengthen the economic ties between the two countries. Raja Pervez Ashraf, welcoming the Ambassador, informed him about the current energy situation faced by Pakistan.

Bio gas plant starts function in Landhi
A pilot project costing 5 million dollar to produce 486 meters cubic feet of bio-gas and 25 kilowatts of electricity per day from cow-dung has been commissioned in Landhi Cattle Colony. British company HiRAD Technology Plc, UK has installed this plant as a pilot project to utilise cow-dung and convert it into bio-gas and electricity.
