Visakhapatnam, July 16: The state secretary of CPI, Dr K. Narayana, said that their party was opposing the state government's proposal to develop Coastal Corridor between Itchapuram in Srikakulam district and Tada in Nellore district and launched a pro-CPI test campaign in this regard to create awareness among those living in the coastal areas about the ill effects of the proposal.

The Coastal Corridor and SEZ Act would deprive the common man of his basic right to life, said the convenor of the Coastal Corridor Nirmana Vyatireka Porata Committee, Mr K.S. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, they said the 8-day Jagruti Jatha organised by both the organisations seeking scrapping of GO No. 34 and the SEZ Act, 2005, ended on Sunday.
The Industrial Coastal Corridor Vyatireka Porata Committee demanded the withdrawal of GO Ms No. 34, relating to the coastal corridor and Kakinada special economic zones. The low returns leave little surplus for tribals to plough it back into agriculture to improve the quality of the land.

I have tried to document the relevant concerns in my article on Sompeta in Economic and Political Weekly.
Experts say Govt underplaying dangers of an accident. Nuclear power is expensive and perilous and India does not need it, said Dr Surendra Gadekar, nuclear scientist.
