Joshi on Tuesday revealed that only 100 km of the 2,400-km Trans-Arunachal Highway announced under the Prime Minister’s package for Arunachal Pradesh had been completed so far. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced the project in Itanagar on January 31, 2008. The Trans-Arunachal (declared as National Highway 229) highway from Tawang to Mahadevpur will pass through Bomdila, Nechipur, Seppa, Sagalee, Ziro, Daporijo, Along, Pasighat, Roing, Teju, Mahadevpur, Namchik, Changlang, Khonsa and Kanubari. The project components include construction of two-lane feeder roads connecting all district headquarters.
Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh government will soon recruit 112 personnel for a company of Special Tiger Protection Force (STPF) for more effective protection to the big cats, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki said today. “The company will be deployed in Pakke Tiger Reserve in East Kameng district and all the expenditures – both recurring and non-recurring – for raising the company will be borne by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA),” Tuki informed the assembly during discussion on The Arunachal Pradesh Forest and Special Tiger Protection Forces Bill 2012.

Expressing concern over reports of heavy floods and damages in Lower Dibang Valley, Changlang and Lohit districts, Tuki today directed the Deputy Commissioners concerned to initiate measure for immediate relief.

Itanagar: The flood situation in Arunachal Pradesh continued to remain grim for the second day today with most of the rivers and their tributaries are in high spate and flowing above the danger level. The worst affected districts in the State’s first wave of flood are Changlang, Lohit and Dibang Valley, according to official reports. At least 75 families of Chakma refugees remained trapped in flood water since Sunday as the turbulent river has rendered the right side of the village inaccessible.
