CMC has elaborate plans to utilise the waste generated in the city for generating power. Plans have been chalked out to take up innovative steps towards generating electricity from solid waste. Bestowed with Green Leaf Award for effective solid waste management measures, the CMC has already introduced systematic way of collection of wastes.

Mangaloreans have a reason to cheer for it has bagged the 8th place on the clenliness index in India. Out of the total 423 cities including 24 from Karnataka where the survey was conducted, Mysore has bagged the 2nd place while Bangalore has been pushed to 12th place. The other cities which find a place within 50 include Mandya (15), Bidar (22) and Udupi (43).
