PANJIM: Finally, the State Forest Policy is expected to see day of light, with state forest department referring the policy for legal vetting. Forest minister Alina Saldanha said that department has already finalized the policy and has sent to law department for legal vetting. Use of plantation land for tourism activities The ecological impacts of the decision to allow construction of resorts and hotels in plantations will be assessed by the Kerala Forest Department. GUWAHATI: The Tour Operators’ Association of Assam has said that the Supreme Court’s order banning tourism in core areas of tiger reserves would not affect tourism in Assam. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati today, Tour Operators’ Association of Assam president Debojit Bora said, “The Supreme Court has clearly stated that tourism should be banned or regulated in core areas of tiger reserves. While this may have an effect on tourism in certain tiger habitats in the rest of the country, in Assam we need not be concerned because the jeep safari and the elephant safari routes in the national parks and tiger reserves of Assam have been well-defined.
