<p>Commissioned by the Western Ghats Expert Ecology Panel (WGEEP) of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India , this paper attempts a rapid assessment of the impact of tourism growth in the Western Ghats. The paper is based on substantive secondary research , by EQUATIONS as well as other academicians and organisations.

The state government has decided to develop tourism in Indira Sagar Dam, the biggest man-made lake in the country. As per directive of the state government, preparations have been completed for development of the islets in the dam. The land of the Islets has been transferred to the tourism department and the development works would start soon.
