  • 25 major bridges in state for better traffic facilities

    In order to develop more traffic and transport facilities, 25 major bridges are being built across Madhya Pradesh. After completion of these bridges smooth and rapid traffic would be ensured between various cities. Besides, villages in remote areas would get connected to roads. Construction of these bridges would also usher in progress with a fast pace in the concerning areas.

    The Planning Commission wants to douse this 'spreading bushfire of rural discontent' -Neha Sakhuja and Savvy Soumya Mishra Land alienation, poverty amongst scheduled tribes and dalits and lack of access to basic forest resources have contributed to the growth of naxalism, says the Planning Commission. Its report, Development challenges in extremist affected areas, indicts Salwa Judum in Chhattisgarh. The report also critiques SEZs and the complete failure of instruments like the Panchayat (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996 and the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980.

  • Twelve minor irrigation schemes sanctioned

    The state government has sanctioned 12 minor irrigation schemes of four districts costing Rs 13.78 crore. All the four districts including Jabalpur, Seoni, Katni and Narsinghpur are in Jabalpur division. On completion, these schemes would bring 1328.50 hectare area under irrigation. The Water Resources Department has sanctioned six schemes of Jabalpur district, three of Seoni, two of Katni and one scheme of Narsinghpur district.

  • Rs 3 cr for checking malnutrition

    Rs 3.29 crore would be spent on controlling malnutrition in children, arrangement of nutritious diet and health check-up in the state this year under Bal Sanjivani Abhiyan and Project Muskan. Using these funds training would be imparted to 69,248 Anganwadi workers under 367 schemes, publicity, arrangements for nutritious diet, organising health check-up camps and arrangements of medicines, doctors and paramedical staff apart from promotional activities.

This has given a fillip to the development process besides making life of people more convenient.

    The United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre, which is left with less than a year in office before seeking a fresh mandate of the people, ought to draw three main conclusions from the Bhartiya Janata Party's first-ever victory in a state in the southern peninsula, which has jolted the Congress more than the others. The first is that disunity among progressive and secular forces has created enough space for religious parties to flourish and govern half-a-dozen major states.

  • 12,000 tonne wheat get wet in rain

    As a result of showers accompanied by strong winds in this district last night, 12,000 tonne wheat, worth about Rs 12 crore, kept in agriculture produce mandi premises has got wet. Official sources said 75,000 tonne wheat was produced in this district last year. About 12,000 tonne wheat was kept in open due to lack of space in godowns of central government and the Madhya Pradesh Government. District Food Officer B S Tomar said small quantity of wheat has been kept in open and covered with plastic. Private godowns were being hired for storing wheat.

  • Every village to have main road connectivity

    Panchayat and Rural Development Minister, Rustam Singh laid foundation of three roads to be constructed at a cost of Rs five crore under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in Morena district, the other day. On this occasion, he reiterated the government's commitment saying that every village will be connected with the main road and not even a single village would be left without road communication facility.

  • Clause of 10% contribution abolished

    Bhopal : The condition of mandatory ten per cent contribution for implementation of piped water schemes in the rural areas has been abolished. Public Health Engineering Minister Choudhary Chandrabhan Singh has informed that orders to this effect have been issued today by the department. He informed that this decision would lead to intensification of piped water schemes' implementation.
