Yet another leopard was trapped at the Cancanamodi area of Cuncolim in the wee hours of Wednesday. This is the second leopard trapped by the forest officials after locals sighted movements of wild cats in the locality. Locals had complained that the leopards, who were on the prowl in the locality for months now, had devoured around 28 pigs and dogs.
Notwithstanding Opposition from the locals, the Forest department will go ahead with the public hearing at Cotigao for Critical Wildlife Habitat (CWH) scheduled on September 30. The residence of Cotigao and surrounding villagers are likely to strongly object to the declaration of the sanctuary as CWH during the public hearing on Thursday.
