Itanagar: Despite unabated poaching of tigers in the Namdapha Wildlife Sanctuary and Tiger Reserve in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh, a recent camera trapping exercise has revealed existence of 35 species of various animals, including tigers and leopards. The exercise was carried out by a Guwahati-based NGO Aaranyak with the logistic support provided by the NWSTR from the first week of February to March 29 last for a detailed report on tigers and their prey base animals, field director S J Jongsam said in a report.
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Government will seek Rs 27,000 crore from the Planning Commission for the 12th five year plan. The proposed amount for the next five years was approved by the State Cabinet on Wednesday. Simultaneously, the Cabinet also approved the annual plan for the year 2012 at Rs 3535 crore. Agartala: With an eye on next year’s assembly polls, Tripura’s Left Front government on Tuesday announced a 12 per cent subsidy on a 17 per cent power tariff hike by the Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission (TERC). “To provide subsidy on the power tariff, Rs 40 crore has to be spent from the government exchequer during the current fiscal,” State Power Minister Manik Dey said. The TERC last week has increased the power tariff up to 69 paisa per unit for the electricity being supplied by the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL).

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken up the case of land-grabbing, diversion of forest land on Patharia Reserve Forest, pushing about 300 families of forest dwellers on the brink of starvation, besides rendering them homeless.
