Nearly 30 acres of land in Knuckles Range, one of Sri Lanka's forest reserves in the central hill country has been destroyed by still raging bush fires. Department of Forest Conservation said thes fire has broken out in Kalugala, Ududumbara in the Knuckles Range.

Japanese Encephalitis Vaccine for all the children in Sri Lanka
The Sri Lankan Health officials have decided to administer Japanese Encephalitis Vaccine for all the children in the country. The Epidemic Disease Unit of Sri Lanka Health Ministry confirmed that they have taken this decision after considering the growing number of mosquito-borne Japanese encephalitis cases in the country.

Dengue patients in Sri Lanka over 15,000, 168 deaths
For the first time in Sri Lankan history the total number of dengue infected cases has gone past 15,000 in less than a year with a death toll of 168. The Dengue Prevention Unit said that 15,528 are infected with the highest number of patients reported in the last month, totaling 6699.

Sri Lanka to import BTI bacteria from Cuba to control dengue
Sri Lanka plans to import BTI bacteria,( Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis) commonly use as a bioinsecticide to destroy mosquito larvae from Cuba next week to control the fast spreading dengue epidemic in the country. Health Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva said that he has already ordered a stock of BTI bacteria from Cuba after holding a long discussion with the Cuban Ambassador in Colombo.

World Bank grants US$ 24 million to improve health care in Sri Lanka
The lending arm of the World Bank on Tuesday approved a US$24 million credit to provide further support to improve the health care in Sri Lanka, especially to meet the health needs of the Internally Displaced Persons in the North and East.

Swine Flu cases in Sri Lanka rising day by day
The number of Swine Flu patients detected in Sri Lanka is rising day by day, Health officials said. According to Dr. Geetani Wickremasinghe of Medical Research Institute in Colombo another two people suffering from swine flu have been detected yesterday. Both patients who were from Australia, including a ten-year-old boy have reached the country on last Sunday.

Second swine flu case detected in Sri Lanka, government take tough measures
Sri Lankan health officials yesterday detected a second patient with swine flu (H1N1). The second patient is a six-year-old boy who was a cousin of the first patient, an eight-year-old boy, and arrived in Sri Lanka with the same family. The family of eight, residents of Australia, arrived in the country last weekend via Singapore to attend a wedding.
