Uninterrupted power supply to Jaffna peninsula from November, Sri Lanka government says
Power and Energy Ministry says the Jaffna peninsula is to receive uninterrupted power supply from November following the completion of the 36 MW thermal power plant in Chunnakkam. A Ministry spokesman said the construction is near completion and the power station will start its operation early November.

Sri Lankan government charges heavy duty on Petrol
Petroleum and Petroleum Resources Minister A.H.M. Fowzie says that the government is charging a levy of Rs. 62 per litre of petrol at the moment. Responding to a question raised by the Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the parliament this morning the Minister said the government has reduced this levy by Rs. 29 in the last fuel price revision.

Power supply to Northern Sri Lanka under 'Uthuru Wasanthaya'
Sri Lanka government has taken measures to provide power supply to every village in the North under a program called 'Uthuru Wasanthaya' (Northern Spring). Issuing a press release Power and Energy Ministry said they would first reconstruct all the transformers, power cable systems, and electricity sub-stations destroyed by the LTTE.
