EU regulators are expected to announce Monday a ban on the import and sale of cosmetics containing ingredients tested on animals and pledge more efforts to push other parts of the world, like China

India in a landmark move is planning to impose a blanket ban on testing cosmetics on animals.

The Orissa High Court on Wednesday directed the State Government and police to take strong measures to curb the illegal transportation of cattle from different districts to outside the State.

The two separate cases of killing and torture of birds in Uttarakhand and Tamil Nadu respectively have shocked both wildlife experts and animal welfare activists.

The Kerala high court has advised the central government to make appropriate changes to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, amended in 1982, as it fell short of the requirements.

A division bench of Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan and Justice K. Vinod Chandran observed, after examining the provisions of the act, that various sections under the act were a ‘cruel joke on animals’.
