Mindless use of pesticides and chemicals for farming in the district causes widespread destruction of the butterfly population, according to environmentalists.

BANDIPUR: A sub-committee comprising senior officials of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu and other stakeholders will be constituted to study the effect of vehicle movement in the national parks in the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve (NBR) and to suggest steps to mitigate its impact.

The components of the draft plan also include infrastructure development, creating camp sites, boundary demarcation and awareness programmes besides monitoring and evaluation.

Nokrek Biosphere Reserve in Garo Hills district of Meghalaya has been added to Unesco

New Delhi: Parts of Garo Hills in Nokrek, covering an area of 820 Sq Kms, has been designated as biosphere reserve and the proposal forwarded for recognition from UNESCO, according to spokesperson of the Ministry of Environment here on Tuesday.
