Avalanche claims 3 lives
Three persons were buried alive under an avalanche and three others were injured at Hudan Bhatori, a remote tribal village in Pangi valley of the district, Resident Commissioner (RC) of Pangi Gopal Chand said today.

Three jawans killed in Siachen avalanches
Two days after an avalanche hit Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir, killing 17 Army personnel at a military base there, three Army jawans were killed on Wednesday in a series of avalanches in Siachen Glacier in the northern part of the state.

Avalanche death toll reaches 166
KABUL: Helicopters ferried rescuers to and bodies away from the site of a massive avalanches that blocked an important mountain pass north of Kabul as the death toll soared on Wednesday to 166, said officials. Hundreds more remained trapped in snowbound cars.

Afghan avalanche kills 64, injures 400
Massive avalanches roaring down a mountain pass north of Kabul may have killed more than 60 people on Tuesday, Afghan officials said, as rescuers evacuated about 400 injured victims. Search-and-rescue teams recovered the bodies of 24 people but said they fear 40 others may have also died, interior minister Hanif Atmar said. About 2,500 people were rescued from their snow-blocked vehicles.

4 killed in fresh J&K avalanches

Two Army soldiers, a BSF trooper and a civilian have been killed and 25 persons injured in fresh avalanches and other weather-related incidents across the Kashmir Valley, officials here said on Tuesday.
Twenty-five cattle also perished, they added.

Avalanche alerts, but Army got no ‘specific warning’
The Monday tragedy that left 17 soldiers dead and 18 critically wounded at Khilanmarg, about 5 km from Gulmarg, could have been averted had the Army and officials at the Army’s High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) taken the warnings of its Snow Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE) unit seriously.

17 Army men killed in avalanches

JAMMU: Seventeen Army men, including an officer, were killed in avalanches near Gulmarg early on Monday.
Out of the 400 men undergoing training at a high altitude warfare camp in Khilanmarg area, 80 were trapped and most of them rescued, a defence spokesman told The Hindu.
