Govt's solar mission aims adding 22,000 MW by 2022
Mr Bibek Bandyopadhyay, Advisor on the Solar Thermal Programme of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, has said that the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission aims at setting up 20,000 MW grid solar power and 2,000 MW of off-grid solar power by 2022.

No say for power ministry in green panel irks Shinde
NEW DELHI: The power ministry may be the government's main instrument for implementing measures to reduce carbon emissions and improve efficiency in the energy sector but a group of experts put together by the Planning Commission to prepare a roadmap to turn the country on a low carbon growth pathway has left out the ministry, much to the chagrin of power minister Sushilkumar Shinde.

University of Madras plans to tap solar energy
Decision taken to cut down on electricity bill of Rs. 9 lakh
MADURAI: The University of Madras has decided to switch over to solar power within a year in order to cut down its monthly electricity bill.
A one-time investment of Rs.3 crore was being made to purchase the solar equipment and install it in the university campus, said G. Thiruvasagam, Vice-Chancellor.
