Developing nations can be paid to save oceans'

Developing countries could in future earn money from reducing carbon emissions by protecting oceans and marine ecosystems, a top UN official said on Thursday.

Sea grasses, mangroves and salt marshes naturally store huge amounts of carbon but this is released as greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, when wetlands are drained or disturbed.

India may participate in carbon capture and storage initiative Down Under

WITH India committing to reduce its carbon emissions by 20-25% by 2020, the government is considering participating in a carbon capture and storage initiative in Australia. A Cabinet note to this effect, initiated by the power ministry, is being circulated among relevant ministries.
