Govt will not be able to acquire land for PPP infrastructure projects and private businesses, if House panel recommendations are accepted in proposed bill
Aparliamentary panel on Tuesday proposed tougher norms for acquiring land for industrial use, as it finalised the new Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill.

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Ecology Commission (GEC) in association with the World Around You (WAY) launched a new initiative called 'Study to identify good environment-friendly practices in Gujarat'- to identify, acknowledge and document practices that have proven capacity and have made significant contribution towards saving environment.

A K Verma, member secretary of GEC said, "Nowadays, we see that people care about environment. We intend to bring forward efforts that have made significant contribution towards saving environment. It will also inspire other people and organizations to join hands and adapt such practices".

The Perform, Achieve and Trade (PAT) scheme to encourage energy saving in energy intensive sectors such as power, steel and cement has begun to attract companies to its fold, according to CII Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Government of India, has included cement manufacturers among top nine energy consuming sectors which require efforts to improve efficiencies and bring down power consumption.

The Tamil Nadu government has issued orders to upgrade two of its cement plants with an investment of around Rs 515 crore. Besides, it has sanctioned Rs 67.46 crore for Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) to set up a cement plant, which will mark the company’s foray into the sector.

Company will produce Light Commercial Vehicles in five different locations in the state

Ashok Leyland Nissan, a JV between Hinduja Group's flagship company Ashok Leyland and Japanese auto major Nissan, today signed a MoU with the Tamil Nadu government to produce Light Commercial Vehicles in five different locations.

Total investment for the project will be Rs 4,150 crore. The locations include Hosur, Pillaipakkam, Ennore, Vellivoyalchavadi and Oragdam.

Gujarat Pipavav Port Limited (GPPL) is the developer and operator of the country's first private sector port at Pipavav in Gujarat. The company has exclusive right to develop and operate the Pipavav Port ( APM Terminals, Pipavav) and related facilities until 2028 pursuant to the Concession Agreement with Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) and the Government of Gujarat (GoG). APM Terminals Pipavav is strategically located in Gulf of Cambay/Khambhat, in the Saurashtra region of the state is one of the principal gateways on the west coast of India.

Jayaswal Neco Industries Limited (JNIL) has formed a subsidiary company named Raigarh Energy Limited (REL) to develop a thermal power plant at Raigarh, Chhattisgarh. REL proposes to establish 600 MW thermal power plant near

M/s Hind Energy & Coal Beneficiation Pvt. Ltd. is presently operating a 2 x 1.2 MTPA dry type of coal washery at Village: Hindadih, Tehsil: Masturi, District: Bilaspur (C.G.) for which the Honorable Ministry of Environment and Forest, GoI, New Delhi has accorded Environment Clearance vide letter No.: J-11015/190/2007-IA. II (M) dated 24/06/2008.

Pioneer Enviro Laboratories & Consultants Private Limited, Hyderabad, have prepared Draft Environmental Impact Assessment (DEIA) report for the proposed expansion Ferro alloys & Power Plant by incorporating the Terms Of Reference approved by Ministry of Environment & Forests, New Delhi. The report contains detailed description of the following: characterization of status of environment with in an area of 10 Km.

Korba West Power Company Limited has obtained Environmental clearance for 1 x 600 MW coal based TPP (Phase 1) in villages–Bade Bhandar, Chote Bhandar, Sarwani and Amali Bhauna, Tehsil – Pussore, Distt. – Raigarh, Chhattisgarh from Ministry of Environment and Forest, New Delhi in 2010 Vide F.No J - 13012/57/2008 - IA.II (T) letter dated 20th May, 2010. The project is under construction phase. Compliance of the conditions stipulated in EC letter are being submitted to the respective authorities on regular bases.
