Govt insists illegal mining, ore export under check
The special squad, formed by the State Government to check the transport and hoarding of illegal iron ore, has seized a huge quantity of mineral, stored in various private stockyards of Bellary district, claimed Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.
He was addressing reporters here on Tuesday after a review meeting with the officials of the Forest, Revenue and Mining departments.

Basmati exporters urge Centre to hold talks with EU over pesticide norms

Govt won't ban export of iron ore
The Centre on Thursday rejected demand for ban on iron ore export, but promised that stringent steps will be initiated to curb illegal mining.
During the debate on illegal mining in the Rajya Sabha, the mining activities in Karnataka were brought to focus by several members, including TDP Rajya Sabha MP Mysura Reddy.

Jail for illegal coal exports
The government has warned that anybody exporting coal illegally will be land in prison and that nobody can take India’s wealth outside the country.
The warning came from Union minister of state for coal Sriprakash Jaiswal in the Lok Sabha on Saturday while replying to the debate on the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2010, that was passed by the House.

Ban on export of iron ore won’t curb illegal mining
An affidavit filed by the Centre in the Karnataka HC on Friday called into question the state government’s decision to stop issuing mineral dispatch permits to control illegal mining in Bellary.
The affidavit was filed in the course of a series of petitions by mining companies challenging the decision to ban exports of iron ore and to stop issuing permits to transport it for export.

GSPCB asked to have public consultation on ore terminal
The Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) has asked the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) to have a public consultation on the development of iron ore terminal at West of Breakwater (WOB) proposed by Mormugao Port Trust (MPT).
According to sources in MPT, MPT officials along with GSPCB on Thursday had a meeting, where MPT made a presentation of iron ore terminal.

Export ban won’t curb mining’
The Union Ministry of Mines (UMM) on Friday submitted before the High Court that the State Government’s ban on iron ore exports decision will not help curb the rampant illegal mining in the State.
In an affidavit filed before the Court, UMM has said that the ban on issuing mineral dispatch permits for transportation of iron ore exports may not be the ideal measure to curb illegal mining.

Rice output may reach record as rain boosts planting
India, the world’s second-biggest rice grower, may have a record harvest this year as increased planting offset drought in the east of the country.

Mine owners criticise export ban
Mine owners have slammed the Government’s claim of excess profits as baseless.
Filing their objections in the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday petitioners V S Lad and others said the government misled the court by giving unsubstantiated figures of profit by the exporters.
