Maharashtra’s State Transport Commissioner VN More has suggested that only those people should be allowed to purchase cars who have adequate parking slots in cities like Mumbai and Pune.

Tuesday it was learnt that civic bodies charge only 1000 cars per day for parking which is encouraging more users. Suggestion to impose parking charges at majority of places to discourage private vehicles was given by the (UMTC), consultant appointed by the Central government, which is carrying out research studies in 12 cities of the country.

Ever since diesel cars started getting popular, a plethora of options have cropped up across the market.

The government’s policy is to usher in development in the State without trampling on the environment and integrate both, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said. He was inaugurating a two-day national seminar on ‘Transport Vision Kerala 2030’ organised by the National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (Natpac) here on Monday.

JAIPUR: With number of vehicles increasing manifold and parking areas becoming a major problem, the state government is planning to draw a parking policy for the city.

The policy will be drawn taking cue from the model parking policy of the Union government. In this regard, a meeting chaired by principal secretary (urban development and housing) G S Sandhu was held to discuss on the issues proposed for parking policies. Officials of traffic department, Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) and Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) were also present in the meeting.

The Environmental Pollution (Prevention & Control) Authority (EPCA) presentation on a new parking policy for Delhi before the Lieutenant-Governor on Thursday argued that the rate of parking for surface parking should be kept higher than multi-level parking facilities.

Other suggestions related to pricing made by Ms. Sunita Narain and Mr. Bhure Lal at the meeting on behalf of EPCA were to keep parking rates variable based on peak and non-peak hours, number of hours parked, and different categories of lands and colonies.
