Impacts of genetically engineered crops on pesticide use: the first thirteen years

Genetically-engineered corn, soybeans, and cotton now account for the majority of acres planted to these three crops. A model was developed that utilizes official, U.S. Department of Agriculture pesticide use data to estimate the differences in the average pounds of pesticides applied on GE crop acres, compared to acres planted to conventional, non-GE varieties.

Managing insecticide resistance in malaria vectors by combining carbamate-treated plastic wall sheeting and pyrethroid-treated

'Wallpapering' huts with sheeting made from insecticide-treated plastic could be a new tool for malaria control, research in Benin shows. When used in combination with insecticide-treated bednets (ITNs) in hut trials, the sheeting killed all mosquitoes, and completely prevented bites.

A study on oxidative stress and antioxidant status of agricultural workers exposed to organophosphorus insecticides during spray

Oxidative stress status and Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity were studied in blood samples obtained from 61 agricultural workers engaged in spraying organophosphorus (OP) insecticides in the mango plantation, with a minimum work history of one year, in the age range of 12-55 years. Controls were age-matched, unexposed workers, who never had any exposure to OP pesticides.
