British N fuel banned
there have been renewed demands in Japan for the recall of a shipment of plutonium from the uk following a damning report by the British Nuclear Fuels ( bnfl ). Japan's ministry of international trade and industry and the Kansai Electric Power Company have demanded that Britain take back nuclear pellets that were allocated falsified quality data by the bnfl staff.
The report by Britain's nuclear industry watchdog body is a blow to Japan's nuclear power industry, which is desperate to regain the public's trust after the worst nuclear accident in Tokaimura in September last year. More than 438 persons were exposed to the radiation and one worker died.
The nuclear power industry has been seen as a supplier of inexpensive energy to a nation with virtually no source of oil or coal, but the growing alarm over safety standards has diminished public confidence.
