KENYA

The Kenyan government will soon hand over the management of some forest areas to local communities, under the trusteeship of civic authorities. The move is aimed at curbing illegal logging that is encouraged by civic leaders, said Joseph Nyagah, the country's minister for lands and settlement. "We have realised that civic bodies can no longer be entrusted with the management of forests owing to the greedy nature of some politicians,' Nyagah added.
