Waste not

The British government has launched a project to recycle nearly 40 per cent of its old newspapers and magazines into high-quality news-print by the year 2000. The project will also help reduce the use of virgin pulp. Other environmental benefits include a new, highly efficient water and effluent treatment plant. Recycled water discharged into the nearby Medway river by the Ayles-ford Newsprint Plant in Kent is said to be cleaner than the water of the river ( The Futurist , Vol 31, No 3).
