D Balasubramanium "This is the time for competent scientists in India to come together to use our traditional knowledge for developing new chemicals in the agricultural and pharmaceutical sectors. A mission mode lasting three years, with well defined goals, would work.

We must protect our collective rights to our traditional knowledge through the biodiversity convention. Patenting extraction procedures or products from sources that are well known through traditional wisdom amounts to 'folk wisdom piracy', because it turns public good into a private commodity."
