Dangerous reactors
greenpeace, the us -based environmental group, released a report showing that the environmental impact assessment ( eia ) on completion of nuclear reactors Khmelnitsky 2 and Rovno 4 in Ukraine. The report states that the reactors do not comply with European Union ( eu ) standards. Both are Soviet designed pressurised water reactors.
The report exposes dramatic safety problems, underlining how the sites are disadvantageous in respect to cooling water supply. The report further states that there has not been any real attempt to inform public about the risks related to the two reactors.
This also amounts to violation of human rights, says the report. According to the Greenpeace nuclear expert Tobias Muenchmeyer the eia, including the public participation programme, has to be started again.
