INDONESIA

More than 120,000 hectares (ha) of rice fields and 300,000 tonnes of unhusked rice have been devastated by recent floods in Indonesia.

"At least 120,991 ha of paddy fields in seven main rice producing provinces have been inundated by floods,' said Sarsito Wahono, a senior agriculture ministry official. He added, "We have lost approximately 299,000 tonnes of unhusked rice and the worst affected areas are rice bowls along the north coast of Java island.'

At least 100 people have been killed as a result of the floods, considered the worst in decades. However, the extensive floods are now subsiding in many parts of the country.
