Sleepless in Goa!

Sleepless in Goa! Here's news that will be music to the ears of Christmas revellers. For others, however, it may well be a harbinger of sleepless nights. The Goa government is considering relaxing its ban on late-night music in an effort to woo more tourists to the state.

"We are working out a mechanism to relax the ban,' Goa's tourism minister Mickky Pacheco declared after discussing the matter with state chief minister Manohar Parrikar. "Certain proposals are being mulled over, subject to legal opinion and need of tourism as well as the people in terms of religious festivals,' Parrikar said. At present, any loud music after 10 pm is banned in Goa in accordance with the Union government's guidelines under the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules 2000.
