Diesel dearer
The Union government has increased the price of diesel. In Delhi the prices have been hiked by Rs 3.56 per litre, and by Rs 4.31, Rs 3.68 and Rs 3.97 in Mumbai, Calcutta and Chennai respectively.
The increase was imminent as the international price of diesel had gone up by 64 per cent since April this year and crude oil prices had sky-rocketed by about 80 per cent since March. Global prices of diesel have already touched us $202 per tonne.
The oil pool deficit which now stands at Rs 5,200 crore will be contained at Rs 3,400 crore by the end of March next year. This will be possible only if international diesel prices remain stable at September levels.
