Head in the air
A helmet containing an airbag that inflates to cover a motorcyclist's neck and shoulders has been invented by the Ireland-based Airbag Technology Inc. The inside of the helmet has a head shield linked to a sensor that can detect any sudden impact. In a crash, the unit releases a cylinder of highpressure gas, which inflates the airbag. The helmet's inventor says that the device should minimise broken necks in accidents by stopping sudden head movements. The airbag, which is stored at the back of the helmet, is covered with diniples; to ensure the wearer is not suffocated by it.
