Green electricity made
a connecticut, us -based company is all set to offer its customers a new power alternative called "green" electricity. This, it says, is not generated from oil or nuclear reactors, but from renewable sources like wind, water and methane gas. Though the electricity would be costlier by us $5-6 a month, the Connecticut Energy Cooperative firmly believes that people would gladly pay more for the green energy for the sake of their own health.
The cooperative's source of electricity would be winds from upstate New York, landfill gases in New Hampshire and small hydroelectric plants in Connecticut. The cooperative will also sell non-green electricity at prices lower than those charged by the competitors. The services are tentatively scheduled to begin from July 1, 2000 and will be made accessible in most parts of the state. It is already available in parts of California, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
This being a new service, companies offering green power have joined the Green-e Renewable Electricity Certification Programme, run by the Centre for Resource Solutions.
