Stricter and clearer
• Strict enforcement of the notification's provisions. Placing before people details of projects proposed in the zone.
• Short-term commercial interests not be allowed to undermine the ecological security of coastal areas.
• An All India Coordinated Research Project for Sustainable and Integrated Coastal Zone Management, sponsored by the MoEF and the Department of Ocean Development.
• Including inland water bodies affected by tides and the land area along these in coastal zone management.
• Management of biological wealth in a trusteeship mode.
• Adopting a more distinct natural boundary instead of high tide marks.
• Review of all aquaculture projects.
• No new roads within CRZs without environmental impact assessments.
• Holding agencies constructing groins or breakwaters responsible for protecting at least 500 metres of shoreline on either side of the structures.
• No new construction activities, pipelines, cables, jetties and reclamation in ecologically sensitive areas.
• Expansion of Coastal Zone Management Authorities' (CZMAs') role from mere policing to one of sustainable and integrated management.
