A marooned humpback whale was exploded in the Port Elizabeth city of South Africa after attempts to put it back into the sea failed. "For easing the misery of the whale, an explosive device was placed very close to its head,' said Sandy Thackeray, spokesperson for Bayworld oceanarium. "We were forced to resort to such means, as attempts to tow it with a boat proved unsuccessful and its size ruled out the possibility of shooting or giving it a fatal injection,' added Thackeray. Environmentalists opine that the incident highlights the country's inability to deal with such incidents.
