Mumbai suburbs gets a landfill site for hazardous waste Kanjurmarg waste landfill site, about 35 km south of Mumbai, is Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai's (mcgm's) latest possession. A serpentine queue of muck-filled trucks through a kachcha road lined with mangroves along the eastern highway that connects Mumbai with Thane is the easiest way to identify the dumping site. The 141-hectare dumping yard, originally a salt-pan land, was handed over to mcgm in October 2005 to be developed as a landfill for the city's over 8,000 tonnes waste per day.
