Clipped wings

Clipped wings at least seven bird species may become extinct in India if immediate action is not taken, say ornithologists at the Bombay Natural History Society bnhs . A study conducted by BNHS shows that the pink-headed duck, forest owlet, jerdon's courser, Himalayan quail, Siberian crane, the white-rumped vulture and the long-billed vulture are heading for imminent extinction. In fact, the pink-headed duck is already feared to be extinct as the bnhs ornithologists were not able to trace it during their expeditions.

The main threats to these birds are from people who kill them for medicinal preparations and for using them to perform black magic. The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and World Conservation Union (IUCN) have now initiated many measures to save the birds.
