Britain is going to be the first country to spend government money on human cloning. Health experts in the UK had recommended that cloning should be allowed at least for healing purposes, if not for reproduction. Human cloning involves extracting "stem' cells from young embryos and growing tissues, through which physicians hope to find cures for diseases that hitherto could not be treated. The "stem' cells can be induced to produce any kind of cell in the body and may be used to grow organs and tissues and treat diseases ranging form paralysis to diabetes.
There is, however, no consensus worldwide on human cloning. Australia is considering the possibility of allowing human cloning, while France, Spain and Germany have opposed such a move. While USA has allowed private research, it has not allowed the use of federal funds for this purpose.
