Succour for AIDS hit

aids-afflicted people across the country are expected to benefit from the Union government's free anti-retroviral treatment project. The first phase of the plan will commence from April 2004 and would cover six high-risk states.

The objective of the project is to reach out to over 1 lakh victims and, over a period of about five years, add 15-20 per cent new cases. The National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), the nodal body which is in charge of formulating plans and policies pertaining to the disease, has said that the government will provide a mix of three drugs
